Dolls Need Straw Too

I’ve been making doll size hats and bonnets lately. Some of them are plain wheat straw plait. Others also use a faux horsehair braid and some of the remnants of dyed straw I have.

I paired many of the hats with sewing workbags and pockets. I think they make cute sets. I particularly like the miniature workbags with straw based and silk tops.

Violet and Bonnie have been modeling many of the pieces. Their heads, with their low coiffure, are 8.25″ (22cm) around. I think I have developed a good feel for getting their fit right.

Getting the fit of bonnets can be more difficult. Their heads are just different enough. An accurately shaped bonnet doesn’t necessarily fit an apple shaped doll head or porcelain hair well.

I decided to give in and bought a few doll size blocks on Ebay.

The first set from these blocks came out cute.
